Morris Golden Film SAE 30 Classic Motor Oil

Price range: £35.00 through £95.16

  • Suitable for classic and vintage vehicles
  • Ideal for lightly loaded diesel engines in canal boats, watercrafts and older generators
  • Anti-foam properties for optimised performance in motorcycle and classic automotive gearboxes

Golden Film SAE 30 Classic Motor Oil is an ideal choice for lightly loaded diesel engines used in canal boats, watercraft and older generators (e.g. Lister, Perkins), where it can dramatically reduce the likelihood of bore glazing. Furthermore, the low level of detergent / dispersant makes Golden Film SAE 30 an ideal choice for 1960s/70s VW air-cooled engines without full flow filters.

This is part of a specialist range of high quality, low detergent/dispersant monograde lubricants. These classic motor oils are suitable for use in naturally aspirated four stroke petrol and diesel engines and classic gearbox designs.

Golden Film SAE 30 Classic Motor Oil is recommended for use in veteran, classic and vintage cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and tractors, where engine design and tolerances prohibit the use of modern multigrade, high additive level oils.

Modern dispersant additives keep combustion chamber contamination suspended in the lubricant, allowing full flow cartridge filters to remove it. Early oil filtration, usually in the form of a mesh gauze or strainer, is not efficient enough to remove this suspended material. These oils are low dispersant and allow the suspended matter to drop harmlessly into the sump.

Golden Film Classic Motor Oils also have enhanced anti-foam properties, ensuring optimised performance in motorcycle and automotive classic gearbox designs.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, Morris Golden Film SAE 30 is not suitable for modern engines. Modern engines typically require multigrade oils with higher levels of detergents and dispersants to keep contaminants suspended and removed by full flow filters, which is not the case with this classic motor oil.

For classic cars, it’s generally recommended to change the oil every 3,000 miles or every 3 months if driven frequently, and every 1,000 miles or once a year if driven infrequently. For cars in storage, change the oil before storing and annually thereafter. Factors such as the type of oil, driving conditions, engine condition, and oil quality can influence this. You should check oil regularly and monitor it for contaminants to maintain engine health.

It is generally not recommended. Mixing can dilute the beneficial properties of new oil and reintroduce contaminants present in the old oil, leading to increased engine wear and reduced performance. Additives in old oil degrade over time, compromising the overall effectiveness of the mixture. For optimal engine health and performance, it is best to perform a complete oil change, replacing the old oil entirely with fresh oil. Mixing should only be considered a temporary solution in emergency situations, with a full oil change performed as soon as possible.
